Movie catering, weddings and food for conferences and functions anywhere in New Zealand and the Pacific, by Flying Trestles, based in Wanaka New Zealand

Movie History
Flying Trestles broke new ground in the movie catering business back in 1992, catering for Jane Campion’s “The Piano”. As time has gone by, business has got busier and busier, and the company grew, with Vertical Limit, Lord of the Rings and King Kong virtually running end-on-end. Not to mention building a solid reputation for catering in Wanaka and Queenstown for every conceivable event that can be imagined.
Some of our rich history:

1999/2003 Lord of the Rings
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy was huge, traveling around locations in New Zealand to some of the most remote corners of the country! On the biggest day 1100 people were fed, more typically there were 700 to 800 per day – generally 6 days a week. Among many other things, 285,600 eggs were consumed, 15 tonnes of fruit and 27km of aluminum foil!
2004 King Kong, The Worlds Fastest Indian, and Antarctic Journal
2004/07 Narnia
2006 1000BC, 30 Days of Night, and Waterhorse
2007 Bride Flight 2008 Underworld 32008 Wolverine [now showing in cinemas]
Plus numerous TV commercials: Speights, Heineken, Jeep, Mercedes, Subaru, BMW, Holden, Ford, Hummer, etc. etc., and another early contract was operating the cafeteria at Wanaka's Treble Cone Ski Area - this went on for around ten years.
Probably one of the most unusual contracts has been catering for mountaineer Guy Cotter’s [Adventure Consultants] expeditions to Mt Everest. Guy is Wanaka based and this expedition became the envy of all expeditions on Everest at the time, because of the cuisine!
Flying Trestles currently have more than eight trucks, including a coffee truck, freezer/chiller truck and location's truck. Each kitchen truck is basically one huge on-the-move self contained kitchen, equipped with its own generator, water, gas and waste tanks, walk in refrigerator plus a freezer, six hob gas ovens and dishwasher. There is also modular field kitchens – ovens, barbeques, stove tops & water boilers and an alloy cage that can be flown by helicopter into remote locations, plus thermal/hot boxes and a variety of other equipment.
